What I SignedPsalm 55:22

I Signed It With Money That Was Not Mine

This message is for the reader carrying a guaranteed obligation from an agreement they signed, who lies awake under the weight of the decision that made it

You wake up at about three and it is there before you are.

Not a thought exactly. A weight that arrives first and then assembles itself into the specifics: the amount, the term, the house that is behind it, the projection you were shown and the reality you are living in, and the gap between those two which has now been open long enough that you have stopped expecting it to close on its own.

I am going to be very careful with you, and I want to tell you what that means before I say anything else.

I am not going to advise you about the agreement. I have not seen it, I do not know your jurisdiction, and a stranger giving you a view on a document he has never read would be doing you harm dressed as help. I am not going to suggest a way out. I am not going to tell you it will come good, because I do not know that and neither does anybody else writing to you at three in the morning.

And I am not going to ask you how you got here. That question has been asked enough, mostly by you, and it has never once produced anything but another lap.

If tonight is worse than the ones before it, and there is any part of you that has begun to think the people around you would be better off without you, stop reading and tell somebody tonight. Your partner, a friend, a doctor, an emergency line where you live. That is not a spiritual failure and it is not weakness. It is the most reasonable thing a person under this kind of pressure can do, and the debt is a solvable problem in a way that you are not replaceable.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD

There is a short line in a psalm that I want to put underneath tonight, and the thing I want you to see is what it promises and what it does not.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22, King James Version)

He shall sustain thee.

Not: He shall remove it. Not: He shall reverse it. Not: the numbers shall come right in the spring.

Sustain. The word is about holding a person up under a load, and it is aimed at the person and not at the load, and that distinction is the whole reason I brought this verse instead of a more comfortable one.

Because you do not need a promise about the balance. You have heard promises about balances and they made things worse. What you need at three in the morning is to know that the one carrying you is not waiting for the number to improve before He gets involved.

Psalm 55:22 puts the sustaining on the person rather than on the burden, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that land on somebody who has stopped believing anything about outcomes.

You are being held right now, in the middle of it, and God has never once been waiting for the figure to change first. Psalm 55:22 says cast thy burden upon the LORD and he shall sustain thee, and the Holy Spirit is the one who puts the promise on you rather than on the balance.

You are not the signature

Here is the thing that has actually happened to you, and I think naming it takes some weight off even though it changes nothing outside.

You have fused with a decision. The signature stopped being something you did and became something you are, and now every time you look at the obligation you are also looking at a verdict on your judgment, your character and your worth as a provider. So the weight is doubled: there is a real financial load, and sitting on top of it there is a permanent accusation.

Psalm 55:22 addresses a person being sustained, not a decision being scored, and the Holy Spirit is not the source of the accusation running under all of this.

Separate them. The obligation is real and stays real. The verdict is not part of the obligation and never was, and no lender, no court and no spreadsheet anywhere issued it. You added it, in the dark, without noticing.

You are a person carrying a debt, and you have never once been the debt itself. The written word offers sustaining to the one who casts the burden, without one word of assessment about how the burden arrived, and the Spirit of God is the one who takes a verdict off somebody that nobody actually passed.

Say the real number to one person

So here is the assignment, and it has two parts, and both are hard and neither is advice.

Tell one person the truth about the numbers. Not the version you have been giving. The actual figure, and the actual term, and what is behind it.

I know what you have been doing. You have been managing everybody's picture of it, including your partner's, in the belief that you are protecting them. What you are actually doing is standing alone inside a thing that two people could stand inside, and the loneliness of that is doing damage the debt is not doing. Psalm 55:22 does not describe a burden held quietly, and the Holy Spirit is not asking anybody to stand in this on their own.

And then book time with somebody qualified. An accountant, an insolvency practitioner, a debt adviser, a lawyer, whatever the right profession is where you live. Not for hope. For facts, from somebody who has read the document, which I have not.

Psalm 55:22 has the burden cast rather than carried in silence, and the Holy Spirit is the one who moves a person from managing an impression to telling the truth.

You are able to say the real number out loud, and carrying it alone has never once been the honorable version. Psalm 55:22 describes a burden being handed over rather than held quietly, and the Spirit of God is the one who is with a person the moment they stop managing the picture.

The breakthrough

So here is what I believe is going out over somebody tonight.

You are held while it is unresolved, and God has never once stood at a distance from the thing you signed. I am not going to tell you it comes good. Psalm 55:22 promises sustaining rather than removal, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my telling who makes that enough to sleep on.

And this, which is the word I came with:

You are not the signature, and the accusation running under this has never once come from Him. The written word says cast thy burden upon the LORD and he shall sustain thee, without one syllable of assessment attached, and the Spirit of God is the one who separates a person from a decision they made.

Tell one person the real number. Then book the appointment.

Declare this over yourself

  1. Three in the morning, you are not a courtroom and you never had the authority. Psalm 55:22 says he shall sustain thee, so by the Holy Spirit you do not get another year of my nights in the name of Jesus.
  2. Accusation that I am the decision I made, you have no standing. The word offers sustaining without one word of assessment about how the burden arrived, and by the Holy Spirit I am done reading a signature as a verdict on me.
  3. Father, You promised to hold the person and not to lift the load. Your word says cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee, so by Your Spirit I say the real number to one person today, and I book the appointment.

Why we ask you to say these out loud

The word this stands on
